Most Basic Stir Fry
This turmeric stir fry shrimps recipe is the easiest and most common stir fry in my homeland country Malaysia.
It's one of the dishes that I learnt how to make when I started cooking. Besides from being the easiest dish, it's also one of the cheapest dish. Haha!
Seriously.
I remember when I was studying in the university back home, I always resort to this dish whenever I was low (well extremely low) on money. Well you know, students never have money. At least back then.
The cafeteria in my university always serve food like a buffet concept, except that you need to pay according to what you put in your plate. Or in my case it was a polystyrene container.
So what I would always do is ask for some white rice and start putting several gravies from curries or whatnots (they don't charge you for gravy) and I would put some of this turmeric stir fry. Usually turmeric chicken stir fry or cockles because those are always cheaper than shrimps.
And that would cost me around 90 cent. Yep.
Anyway.
As I was saying, it's a very common dish in Malaysia. And I would go on a limp and say it's very common to its neighbouring countries also.
If you're a beginner in the kitchen and would like to make a guaranteed-delicious stir fry dish, this should be it.
Basic Ingredients
As you can see in the video below, the ingredients are extremely basic.
Onion, garlic and some lemongrass as the base. If you don't have lemongrass, you can use kaffir lime leaves. Or if you don't have either then simply skip it. No worries.
I like to sautee my onion until it becomes really soft. For me, the onion tastes sweeter and nicer like that. Some people like their onion a bit crunchy in their stir fry. So you choose, my friend.
I also like to have my turmeric stir fry dishes with some green beans. I don't know what about them but for me it's like a rule. Turmeric stir fry? Ok, need green beans.
You can of course use your favourite veggies. Just try not to use veggies that release lots of water like mushrooms because we do want this stir fry a bit on the dry side.
Well there you have it.
A basic no fuss stir fry for you to try today. If you decide on making this dish, please don't forget your white rice. Trust me, the stir fry and white rice are a perfect match.
And some sweet soy sauce on the rice, if you really want to be eating like a local.
